LOS ANGELES -- JANUARY 29, 2015 --
O'Melveny & Myers LLP partner Richard Goetz has been elected to the American Law Institute, the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law.

Goetz is the chair of O’Melveny’s Class Actions, Mass Torts, and Insurance Litigation Practice. He defends some of the world’s best-known companies—pharmaceutical, medical device, computer, insurance, consumer products, food—in complex, multimillion-dollar legal challenges. He has also served on O’Melveny’s Policy Committee. Goetz teaches class action issues at Rutter Group conferences annually in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He has also lectured at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science and at Harvard Law School. He is a longtime member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, and co-chairs the Council’s Counterterrorism Subcommittee.

The ALI drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education. By participating in the Institute's work, its distinguished members have the opportunity to influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas, to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics, to give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated, and to contribute to the public good.

“I am pleased and honored to welcome this impressive group to our membership,” President Roberta Cooper Ramo remarked in ALI’s January 26 announcement. “We look for the intellectual leaders in every area of law, and I am confident that these new members will embrace our tradition by giving generously of their time and intellect so that ALI's law reform work will continue at the high level set by our founders."
