WASHINGTON, DC ─ AUGUST 26, 2011 ─ O'Melveny & Myers LLP partner Srikanth Srinivasan has been named Principal Deputy Solicitor General of the United States. Srinivasan’s selection for the number two job in the Solicitor General's office is a testament to his impressive record, his surpassing talent, and his high esteem within the appellate bar. He joins a long roster of O'Melveny partners including Warren Christopher, William T. Coleman, Jr., Arthur B. Culvahouse, Jr., Walter Dellinger, Thomas Donilon, Richard Parker, Brian Boyle, Lee Blalack, Ted Kassinger, Ian Simmons, Ken Wainstein, Michael Camuñez, and many others who have built a proud legacy of high-level public service.
Srinivasan received his J.D. and M.B.A. in 1995 from Stanford, where he also earned a B.A. in 1989. He first joined O'Melveny as an associate in 1998, after winning the coveted, year-long Bristow Fellowship in the Office of the Solicitor General and serving as a law clerk for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the United States Supreme Court. Srinivasan was also a clerk to former Chief Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson on the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In 2002 he left O'Melveny to become an Assistant to the Solicitor General, rejoining the Firm as a partner in 2007. He has argued 17 cases before the US Supreme Court.
“Sri’s partners at O’Melveny & Myers are pleased and proud that his achievements have been recognized by this important appointment,” said Arthur B. Culvahouse, Jr., Chair of O'Melveny & Myers. “All of us who have come to know Sri over the years know that he will serve the cause of justice well in his new position. We at O’Melveny have a proud tradition of our partners providing exemplary public service. Our late Senior Partner Warren Christopher, who left O’Melveny several times to serve in the Justice and State Departments, is just one example of this commitment.”
“From the time Sri and I first worked together in the Solicitor General’s office in 1996, I have thought that he would become one of the best advocates and finest lawyers of his generation,” said Walter Dellinger, O'Melveny partner and former acting Solicitor General. “It has been both a great privilege and great fun to work with him at O’Melveny.”
