LOS ANGELES, CA -- July 26, 2013 -- O’Melveny & Myers partner Andrew Parlen has been selected by the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Bar Association to receive a “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 - Class of 2013” Award. The LGBT Bar established the award to recognize “outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender legal professionals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.” Parlen will be recognized among this year’s honorees during an awards luncheon at the 25th Anniversary Lavender Law® Conference & Career Fair on August 24, 2013.
A partner in O’Melveny’s Los Angeles office and a member of the Firm’s Restructuring Practice, Parlen specializes in creative, multidisciplinary solutions to his clients' financial challenges and strategic priorities. He has represented companies, investment funds, and lenders in high-profile chapter 11 proceedings. He has also helped clients through prepackaged bankruptcies and out-of-court restructurings, devising and implementing value-maximizing strategies that spare them the disruption, expense, and publicity that may accompany an in-court proceeding. Law360 recently named Parlen a 2013 "Rising Star"—one of just five bankruptcy attorneys under 40 nationwide to be recognized.
Parlen serves as a co-chair of the Legal Council of the UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute, a think tank dedicated to sexual orientation law and public policy. Through his deep ties to the organization, Parlen has spearheaded O’Melveny’s significant contributions to two influential multi-state analyses for the Institute on LGBT-based employment discrimination and anti-sodomy laws.
The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal organizations. The LGBT Bar promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBT community in all its diversity.
