Petrocelli, Robertson Named Law360 MVPs

CENTURY CITY and NEW YORK—December 28, 2017—O’Melveny partners Daniel Petrocelli and Mark Robertson have been named Law360 MVPs in the areas of Media and Entertainment and Transportation, respectively. The annual awards recognize an “elite slate of attorneys who have distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters, and record-breaking deals,” setting them apart from the more than 1,000 submissions the publication received.

Petrocelli was honored for a “massive win that helped shape the music industry when New York’s highest appeals court ruled that radio companies like SiriusXM are not required to pay to broadcast pre-1972 recordings over the air.” O’Melveny, which was retained to replace Sirius’ prior counsel, “eventually got New York's highest state appeals court to side with Sirius in December 2016, diverging from a district court ruling that had granted record labels and artists the right to earn new royalties from the old tracks, which Petrocelli said had been ‘essentially devastating.’” Petrocelli told Law360, “We restored law and order.”

Robertson was recognized for his numerous wins as lead counsel for American Airlines Inc., including in several labor disputes brought by pilots concerning the seniority agreement reached after the airline's merger with US Airways. “Robertson said his ability to notch win after win while representing AA in a number of different cases was his most significant achievement,” Law360 reported. “The counsel and associates that I work with really stepped up and took on more significant roles in numerous matters, and they really knocked it out of the park,” Robertson said.
