Rapisardi, Parlen Receive NYLJ Professional Excellence Awards
October 18, 2017FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY—October 18, 2017—Co-Chair of O’Melveny’s Global Restructuring Practice John Rapisardi was honored last night as a distinguished leader at the 2017 New York Law Journal Professional Excellence Awards. In addition, O’Melveny Bankruptcy & Restructuring partner Andrew Parlen was named a Rising Star.
In his profile in the NYLJ’s special awards supplement, Rapisardi discussed some of his proudest recent achievements, including leading Puerto Rico in its restructuring of US$72 billion in debt, as well as what it means to be a leader, and how the business and profession of law are changing. “The by-product of instantaneous impersonal communications has been to make us more insular and prone to jumping from problem to problem without sufficient thought to long-term implications of the decisions made in that process. The challenge for lawyers in the future will be to look for ways to slow down the pace of events that enhances quality time for thinking through problems and issues and allow for direct conversations to avoid misunderstandings," Rapisardi told NYLJ.
In its profile of Parlen, the NYLJ noted his work for “numerous companies in both Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructuring matters,” as well as his leadership, pro bono and civil work. “He is deeply committed to LGBT equality and dedicates substantial time to this cause, including by serving as co-chair of the Legal Council of the Williams Institute, the nation's leading LGBT think tank,” the NYLJ wrote.
Based in New York, Rapisardi has 30 years of domestic and international debtor and creditor restructuring experience across a variety of industries, including automotive, casinos, chemical, health care, retail, real estate, satellite, sports franchises, textile and telecommunications.
Whether representing a business restructuring, an equity holder protecting its interests, a creditor pursuing its claims, or an acquirer seeking to purchase distressed assets, Parlen, also based in New York, understands that each client requires flexible, individually tailored guidance to navigate the ever-evolving restructuring field.
