Schneller Recognized by Bloomberg Law as Top Lawyer Under 40

LOS ANGELES—July 28, 2021—O’Melveny partner Jonathan Schneller has been recognized as one of 40 top young lawyers nationwide in Bloomberg Law’s inaugural edition of “They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40.”
The special feature recognizes young lawyers across a wide range of practice areas—including antitrust, appellate, bankruptcy, labor & employment, litigation, M&A, and white collar.
A former deputy federal public defender and law clerk to Associate Justice Elena Kegan of the Supreme Court of the United States, Schneller focuses his practice on complex, high-stakes litigation, including product liability and mass torts. In a Q&A with Bloomberg Law, Schneller discussed one of his recent accomplishments, successfully representing Johnson & Johnson in the first opioids lawsuit to go to trial. “We spent many late nights identifying the flaws in the state’s unprecedent public-nuisance theories and it was gratifying to see that work yield concrete results,” Schneller said. “The arguments we developed are now the backbone of J&J’s appeal in Oklahoma and its defenses against radical public-nuisance theories nationwide.”
Schneller also spoke about his efforts to promote greater equity and inclusiveness at O’Melveny by recruiting and mentoring diverse young associates, as well as his work as a member of the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League, which offers debate programs and sponsors tournaments for public high school students from low-income and immigrant backgrounds.
Bloomberg Law evaluated nominees based on such criteria as their record of success for clients in high-stakes client matters, their leadership in client matters and in other key firm roles, including pro bono and diversity & inclusion efforts, thought leadership and innovation, and recommendations from key legal industry stakeholders.
