O’Melveny’s Silicon Valley Office Continues Growth with Arrival of IP and Technology Litigation PartnerOctober 13, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SILICON VALLEY — October 13, 2016 — O’Melveny adds further strength to its Silicon Valley litigation roster with the addition of partner Melody Drummond Hansen. Drummond Hansen, formerly based in the firm’s San Francisco office, has extensive experience advising technology companies in complex litigation matters, including patent, trade secret, trademark, unfair competition, computer fraud, copyright, and data security litigation in federal and state courts, before the US International Trade Commission, and in parallel proceedings in the US Patent Office.
“Whether technology companies are well-established or still on the rise, they will encounter legal questions spanning multiple jurisdictions that can involve issues ranging from contract disputes to data security to patent infringement claims,” Drummond Hansen said. “I am excited to help our Silicon Valley clients find creative and effective solutions to these challenges.”
Drummond Hansen’s broad litigation experience spans diverse technologies, including mobile telecommunications standards and devices, internet content delivery networks, semiconductors, consumer electronics, interactive television, voice recognition, cameras, audio recording devices, secure payment processing, and consumer products, and includes both hardware and software. She represents plaintiffs and defendants in all aspects of litigation, from pre-filing investigation through fact and expert discovery, claim construction, dispositive motions, trial, appeal, and enforcement.
“Melody is a seasoned legal strategist and advocate who understands the distinctive space in which our technology clients operate,” said Eric Amdursky, managing partner of the Silicon Valley office. “When litigation is unavoidable, clients can expect her to vigorously advocate for them while always keeping sight of their broader legal and business goals. Her addition to our Silicon Valley team is a substantial asset to clients navigating this complex landscape.”
Drummond Hansen’s arrival is the latest to enhance O’Melveny’s platform in Silicon Valley to serve clients in the technology sector. In September, the firm welcomed Einat Meisel, a leading transactional lawyer in the Israeli-related technology and life sciences sector, to the office as chair of the Israel Practice and a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. O’Melveny also recently added the formerly LA-based litigation partner Vision Winter, who focuses on helping technology companies protect their intellectual property in patent, trade secret, and other disputes, to its IP team in Silicon Valley.
Amdursky also noted, “As a testament to the high caliber of talent that distinguishes O’Melveny’s Silicon Valley team, partner Susan van Keulen recently was selected for the magistrate judge position vacated earlier this year by Paul S. Grewal in the Northern District’s San Jose Division.” Van Keulen has practiced commercial litigation in Silicon Valley for 28 years with a substantial focus on intellectual property cases, having prepared and served as lead trial counsel in dozens of cases in the San Jose Division of the Northern District.
