LOS ANGELES ─ AUGUST 1, 2013 ─ O’Melveny & Myers LLP welcomes back Steve Olson as a partner in the White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice. After two years of client and government service, Olson returns to the Firm’s Los Angeles office, where he will resume his white collar and civil litigation practice, and counsel international companies on US investment.

“We are delighted to have Steve back at O’Melveny,” said Daniel Bookin, firmwide Chair of the White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice. “The unique experience that Steve gained in his government service, along with his skills as a white collar and civil trial attorney, will enhance our ability to serve our clients.”

Olson left O’Melveny in 2011 to work with Firm client Aletheia Research & Management as President and Chief Legal Officer. Thereafter, Olson became the Senior Advisor to then-US Commerce Secretary John Bryson. In that role, he addressed many of the country’s important business issues, including protection of trade secrets, US manufacturing policy, and management of the Gulf Coast restoration fund created from the settlement of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill litigation. Olson also served as Executive Director of SelectUSA, an initiative by President Obama to create more jobs for American workers by encouraging international businesses to invest in the United States. Under Olson’s leadership, SelectUSA helped channel more than $25 billion in new foreign investment into the United States, creating and retaining tens of thousands of jobs. With the Director of the White House National Economic Council, Olson co-chaired the Interagency Investment Working Group, composed of senior leadership from 22 federal agencies and the Executive Office of the President, and was charged with coordinating federal investment policy initiatives and attraction efforts.

“It’s an honor to rejoin my friends and colleagues at O’Melveny,” Olson said. “Not only do I look forward to resuming work in the white collar and civil litigation areas, but also, given my recent government experience, I look forward to guiding international companies as they invest in the US.”

Before joining O’Melveny, Olson served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California and a member of the Major Frauds Section.
