The National Law Journal Names Rimon a “DC Trailblazer”
9月 28, 2020FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC—September 28, 2020—White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations partner Laurel Loomis Rimon has been named to The National Law Journal’s list of 2020 “DC Trailblazers,” which recognizes legal professionals in Washington, DC “who have moved the needle in the legal industry.”
In her award profile, the publication wrote that Rimon possessed an intimate knowledge of alternative financial systems “long before virtual currencies went mainstream.” As a former assistant US attorney in the mid-2000s, she litigated the government’s first-ever prosecution of a digital currency company. Nearly 15 years later, Rimon represents one of the largest digital currency exchanges in enforcement actions brought by the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network alleging that the exchange’s anti-money laundering compliance program was insufficient.
The National Law Journal also recognized Rimon as the leader of O’Melveny’s investigation into alleged ethical misconduct by DC Councilmember Jack Evans, the Ward 2 representative and the District’s longest-serving lawmaker. Following the firm’s 97-page report released last December, the Council unanimously voted to recommend Evans be expelled for ethical violations, and he resigned soon after.
Currently, Rimon is focusing on the shift towards contactless payments, which have gained greater acceptance amid COVID-19 concerns. As a member of O’Melveny’s Coronavirus Task Force, Rimon also advises clients on their eligibility for and obligations under available federal finance programs. She counsels small to mid-size businesses on SBA lending, Federal Reserve credit facilities, Health and Human Services grants, and state and local governments on federal block grants.
