FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CENTURY CITY—April 6, 2017—O’Melveny partners Matthew Erramouspe and Daniel Petrocelli were selected for inclusion in Variety’s 2017 Legal Impact Report. The special report, published April 4, 2017, profiles the top attorneys in the entertainment industry. Additionally, counsel Amy Lucas was featured in the “Up Next” section, which recognizes rising lawyers in entertainment law.

Variety highlights Erramouspe’s work for valued client Alibaba Pictures, including its “Amblin Pictures finance and China distribution tie-up,” among other major deals. Tech outfits “charge into the content business” with motivations and corporate cultures different from those of traditional Hollywood, he told Variety. Their interest is to supply their tech platforms, unlike Hollywood’s focus on individual projects, and the “different drivers make for an interesting clash of cultures,” he added.

Petrocelli’s profile cites several of his high-profile litigation successes over the past year, including a “closely watched” victory for Sirius XM pushing back on claims for royalties from pre-1972 music, as well as a win for 20th Century Fox over the name of its TV series “Empire.”

“The transformation we are witnessing in the entertainment industry presents a diverse array of new and challenging legal issues… Traditional divisions between production and distribution of content are vanishing,” Petrocelli said in the report.

In selecting Lucas as a rising star in entertainment law, Variety points to her role helping lead O’Melveny’s team that secured a win for Warner Bros. in a lawsuit over allegedly unpaid compensation from “Goodfellas.” She told Variety, “I would like to continue doing trial work and I would eventually like to become the sort of litigator that is retained because my clients want to convey to their opponent that they take the case very seriously.”

Co-chair of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports, and Media transactional practice, Erramouspe is a dealmaker and trusted advisor who counsels clients in all business and legal aspects related to the financing, acquisition, production, and distribution of content and live events. Petrocelli, who serves as chair of the firm’s Trial Practice Committee, has a national trial practice representing clients in major litigation in a wide variety of areas, including sports, entertainment, intellectual property, unfair competition, and criminal defense. Lucas focuses on complex commercial litigation and regularly handles entertainment, contractual, and intellectual property disputes, business torts, and class actions. They all reside in O’Melveny’s Century City office.
