FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CENTURY CITY—May 1, 2017—The Hollywood Reporter has selected O’Melveny partners Matthew Erramouspe, Daniel Petrocelli, and Stephen Scharf for inclusion in its 2017 Power Lawyers feature. The special report, published April 26, 2017, profiles the top 100 attorneys in the entertainment industry, who all “play a vital role in keeping Hollywood's wheels turning.” In addition, the report highlights the firm’s recent work hosting a series of immigration intake clinics in collaboration with nonprofit Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) and valued Hollywood clients.
Erramouspe’s Power Lawyers profile notes his work helping client Alibaba “up its relationship with Hollywood to the next level” through a long-term partnership with Amblin Partners, which involved the internet giant taking a minority stake with the intention of teaming on co-productions. “It’s a larger step than just doing a one-off investment,” Erramouspe said of the transaction. Co-chair of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports, and Media transactions practice, Erramouspe is a dealmaker and trusted advisor who counsels clients in all business and legal aspects related to the financing, acquisition, production, and distribution of content and live events.
In selecting Petrocelli as a Power Lawyer, THR points to several litigation successes he achieved over the past year on behalf of high-profile entertainment clients, including Sirius XM, Fox, and Kesha. Petrocelli, who serves as chair of the firm’s Trial Practice Committee, has a national trial practice representing clients in major litigation in a wide variety of areas, including sports, entertainment, intellectual property, unfair competition, and criminal defense.
Scharf’s profile describes his deal work helping Hollywood clients enter the Chinese film industry, including advising Imax Corp. on the creation of the Imax China Film Fund. Scharf, who is co-chairs the firm’s Entertainment, Sports and Media transactions practice, continues to be widely recognized as one of the most creative dealmakers in the entertainment and media industry, particularly with respect to complex transactions involving the finance, production, and distribution of motion pictures, and the formation, capitalization, purchase, and sale of entertainment companies.
Additionally, several O’Melveny lawyers sat down with THR to discuss O’Melveny’s longstanding commitment to pro bono immigration work, including recent work hosting intake clinics to benefit undocumented immigrant children in need of legal aid. Counsel David Lash said that the firm is seeing “double the amount of pro bono activity it did by this time last year,” and expects that trend to continue. “We see heightened volume and we see many new issues arising,” he added. With so much work to be done, partner Matt Kline told THR that he’s confident that O'Melveny won’t have trouble finding attorneys willing to donate their talents and time. “[T]here’s a ton of energy, and there’s a ton of commitment, and there’s a ton of awareness that wasn’t there before.”
