Variety Spotlights Two O’Melveny Partners as Leaders in Media and Entertainment

CENTURY CITY—October 18, 2017—Variety has singled out two of O’Melveny’s media and entertainment lawyers for their remarkable success and leadership in the industry. Partner Silvia Vannini was recognized in the 2017 edition of Variety’s “Women’s Impact Report,” which spotlights the achievements of women in the entertainment world. Additionally, partner Cassandra Seto was featured in the publication’s 2017 “New Leaders” issue, which recognizes the most prominent up-and-comers to watch out for in Hollywood.

In Vannini’s “Women’s Impact” profile, Variety spotlights her entertainment-focused transactional practice, including her recent work on a complex US$100 million television production financing venture between Imagine and Hong Kong-based TVB. The publication notes that “working at a firm that’s been around and focused on entertainment and media since 1885” provides Vannini with a unique perspective. “I look forward to parlaying our vast experience into solutions exclusively crafted for our clients in order to solve the most complex issues emerging from the digital revolution,” she said.

Litigator Seto’s “New Leaders” profile explains that she “discovered she had an aptitude and a passion for litigating copyright and trademark issues while helping Disney defend its rights to Winnie the Pooh.” Variety also points to her ongoing work for Disney on a host of matters, including a copyright infringement case involving its film “Zootopia.” Regarding her practice, Seto told Variety, “I always have new things to learn and new problems to solve…So I feel really lucky that I stumbled into this space.” Earlier this year, Seto was named a Law360 “Rising Star” in media and entertainment and in 2016, she was named among the “Most Influential Minority Lawyers” by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
