Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers Name O’Melveny One of the Best Law Firms for Women

July 26, 2016

New York, NY ─ July 26, 2016 ─ Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers today announced the 2016 Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers Best Law Firms for Women, recognized for leading the industry in creating and using best practices in retaining and promoting women lawyers. O’Melveny has been selected for this prestigious list for the fourth consecutive year.

Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers co-founded the Best Law Firms for Women initiative in 2007 to recognize firms that lead the industry in women’s business development and career advancement initiatives that offer flexible work arrangements and generous paid parental leave, among other important benefits.

This year, women represent 30% of nonequity lawyers of the firms that made the list, the highest percentage in the past nine years, with O’Melveny surpassing that percentage with more than 45% female non-partners. This year, at all-equity partnership firms, female equity partner promotions increased one percentage point, year over year, to 34%. At O’Melveny, 45% of the 2016 partner promotions were women.

O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin remarked: “Our former chair Warren Christopher once said, ‘the most effective teams are comprised of talented people with divergent backgrounds and experiences. They do not look like the products of a cookie cutter.’ That commitment to diversity and inclusion impacts everything we do at O’Melveny, from developing our talent to building client and trial teams.” Butwin added: “We are honored to be recognized by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers for the programs that help define our culture.”

Jennifer Owens, editorial director of Working Mother Media, says, “Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers’ Best Law Firms show how to make it work. Despite intense pressures, the success of the firms in creating workable solutions for working families shows their commitment and ingenuity to create a progressive future for their firms.”
