Music Education Joint Venture for Little Kids Rock
O'Melveny represented Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization that restores and revitalizes music education in disadvantaged public schools, in a joint venture with Berklee College of Music, the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world.
The initiative, Amp Up NYC, benefits over 60,000 New York City students in 600 city schools by providing an innovative, contemporary, and instrumental music program in cooperation with the New York City Department of Education. The program makes music education more accessible to youth in public schools, especially in marginalized communities, which suffer from reduced funding and outdated music programming. The project will donate millions of dollars’ worth of musical instruments, provide training of existing New York City music teachers, contribute and develop innovative curriculum, and provide ongoing professional development to hundreds of New York City teachers. The Amp Up NYC initiative will serve as a model for building district-wide modern band programs in other public school districts in the United States.
