John Dermody, counsel in O’Melveny’s Data Security & Privacy group and former Deputy Legal Advisor of the National Security Council, will address the legal framework surrounding emergency management, national security, and the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the upcoming webinar, “DEFCON ONE: Cyberattacks, Pandemics, Emergency Planning, and the Legal Battle for Recovery.” Dermody and other cybersecurity leaders will discuss planning, preparing, and responding to major events on the federal, state, and local levels.

As a member of O’Melveny’s Coronavirus Task Force, Dermody advises clients on government emergency powers, shelter-in-place orders, and data privacy issues associated with public health measures. In addition to his service as Deputy Legal Advisor at the NSC, Dermody previously served in the General Counsel’s offices of the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.
