Standards Leadership Forum: Global Trade, Foreign Courts, and the Future of SEP Disputes
September 23, 2026
O’Melveny partner Shawnna Yashar will be a guest speaker the Standards Leadership Forum hosted by Save Our Standards in Washington, DC. The event aims to bring together “policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and legal experts to examine the future of technical standards and standard essential patents (SEPs) voluntarily contributed and committed to fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing.”
Yashar has advised innovative technology and software companies on high-stakes IP litigation and complex commercial litigation, successfully handling matters and resolving disputes in various district and federal courts, as well as before the US Patent Trial and Appeal Board and the US International Trade Commission for over two decades. She will join a panel discussion exploring how international litigation, rate-setting, and trade-related pressures are affecting US innovators and implementers, the role of US courts in global FRAND disputes, and whether current frameworks adequately protect American economic interests. Panelists will also consider how policymakers can respond to divergent global approaches to SEP enforcement and help ensure US companies are not disadvantaged in international licensing negotiations.
