An O’Melveny pro bono team led by partner David Kirman was recognized in Law.com Litigation Daily’s “Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout-Outs” feature for securing a ruling in California’s Fourth District Court of Appeal that reversed a family court’s order that initially dismissed their client’s domestic violence restraining order petition without ruling on the merits. Kirman called the decision “an important victory for the client and for domestic violence survivors generally” and noted that it “reflects the value of the firm’s pro bono program by giving a second-year associate the opportunity to develop oral advocacy skills in a case of significant public importance.” O’Melveny associate Josh Cayetano said: “Where the legal process can be daunting to many petitioners, this opinion serves as reminder that they are entitled to a resolution on the merits of their claim.” The O’Melveny pro bono team also included counsel Shelby Cummings and associate Molly Shuminer.
