Associated Press: Pennsylvania’s Schools Say Victory in Court is Final and Legislature Needs to Increase Funding

An appeal to Commonwealth Court President Judge Renée Cohn Jubelirer’s February ruling that declared Pennsylvania’s educational funding system unconstitutional was not filed by state lawmakers by the deadline. The plaintiffs in the case, which included six school districts, the NAACP, and the Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools, sued the state in 2014 over claims that its educational funding system discriminated against students in low-income districts. “The decision is now final and there is no excuse for state lawmakers to delay action any further,” the plaintiff’s lawyers from the Public Interest Law Center, the Education Law Center, and O’Melveny & Myers LLP said in a joint statement.
