A California state judge slashed US$950 million in punitive damages from a US$966 million jury verdict against Johnson & Johnson in a lawsuit involving an 88-year-old woman who died of mesothelioma, saying the estate’s counsel failed to sufficiently show the pharmaceutical giant acted maliciously.
