Law360: Justices To Weigh Obstruction Of Justice Qualification

The US Supreme Court agreed to review a case that garnered a split Fourth Circuit decision and focuses on whether Jean Francois Pugin, a Mauritian man who pled guilty to being an accessory after the fact to a felony, is eligible for deportation under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Pugin, who has been a lawful permanent resident since entering the country in 1985, was ordered to be removed by an immigration judge after it was determined that Pugin’s offence was an aggravated felony under Virginia state law. “We are gratified that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear Mr. Pugin’s case and look forward to presenting our arguments to the Court,” said O’Melveny partner Michael Dreeben, who represents Pugin.
