In recent years, law firm leaders have been increasingly speaking out on social issues and world events. “Four years ago, I was not sending out emails and having discussions and Zooms on social issues,” O’Melveny chair Bradley Butwin noted in a recent interview with The American Lawyer. “When George Floyd was murdered, there became an inflection point and I felt that I had to make a decision about whether this should sit quietly because it had nothing to do with cases we were working on or our financial results or our path to partnership or our strategic priorities. I decided to speak and then there came a time where I was communicating with our people every week about stuff because stuff was happening all over.”
