The Washington Post: Caroline Ellison, Key Witness in Bankman-Fried Trial, Sentenced to Prison

Caroline Ellison was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of wire, securities, and commodities fraud, as well as money laundering following the collapse of FTX. Ellison, the former CEO of the Alameda Research fund, was a witness in the trial of Sam Bankman-Fried. O’Melveny partner Rebecca Mermelstein, a former federal prosecutor, said that she was surprised to see Ellison receive prison time because of her cooperation and lack of criminal history. “Some crimes will be too serious for even the best cooperator to get a complete pass,” Mermelstein said. “She wasn’t the only source of information, obviously, but she was a very important one, and she let them move very quickly.”
