O’Melveny partner Leah Godesky and team received a shout out in The American Lawyer’s “Litigators of the Week” column for obtaining a favorable ruling on behalf of Kesha Sebert in a defamation lawsuit filed against the singer/songwriter seven years ago by producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald after she publicly accused him of rape.
The publication highlighted New York Supreme Court Justice Jennifer G. Schecter’s significant finding that the state’s new anti-SLAPP statute applies retroactively, increasing the demand for evidentiary proof to support the producer’s defamation claim and enabling Kesha to put forward a counterclaim for attorneys’ fees, costs, and damages encountered during the lengthy legal battle.
