Associated Press: With Court Win, Pennsylvania Schools Want Plan, Down Payment

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is expected to unveil his first budget next week in the wake of Commonwealth Court President Judge Renée Cohn Jubelirer’s ruling that declared the state’s educational funding system to be unconstitutional. The lawsuit, which was brought by six school districts, two civil rights groups, and several parents, was originally filed in 2014 and claimed that Pennsylvania's funding model violated the education clause and equal protection provisions in the state's constitution. “I think we’re all looking forward to hearing what he says in his budget speech, so we have a little bit better sense of what he's been hearing and what it is that he's thinking,” said Katrina Robson, a partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP who represented the plaintiffs.
