Court Listener: Hamlet v. Hoxie

November 8, 2022

On behalf of pro bono client Roderick & Solange MacArthur Justice Center, O’Melveny’s Damilola G. Arowolaju, with Youjin Kwon serving as second chair, recently presented the oral argument in Hamlet v. Hoxie to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Damilola represents Lynn Hamlet, an elderly incarcerated man in the Florida Department of Corrections. The American Diabetes Association also joined the case as Amicus Curae. Mr. Hamlet, a diabetic with physical impairments, was the victim of an unlawful retaliation campaign that left him locked in a flooded shower room under extreme, inhumane conditions. As a result, Mr. Hamlet developed a life-threatening infection that required emergency heart-valve replacement surgery.
