Daily Journal: Meta Can Sue Maker of Pegasus Over Spyware on WhatsApp

The US Supreme Court refused to hear NSO Group Technologies’ appeal of a 9th Circuit decision forcing the Israeli spyware company to face hacking claims brought by WhatsApp. The Meta subsidiary accused NSO of using malware to hack into the accounts of 1,400 WhatsApp users in 2019, arguing that it was acting “as an agent of foreign governments.” WhatsApp said that “NSO’s spyware has enabled cyberattacks targeting human rights activists, journalists, and government officials.” WhatsApp and Meta are represented by Michael R. Dreeben of O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
