KABC-TV Features O’Melveny Warren Christopher Scholarship Program

October 21, 2021

In its October 20 broadcast of ABC7 Eyewitness News at 6:00, KABC-TV reported on O’Melveny’s Warren Christopher Scholarship Program, which awards $20,000 college scholarships to remarkable Los Angeles public high school students who are rising academic stars with demonstrated financial need.

31 students from the 2020 and 2021 Scholar Classes were honored during an awards ceremony at Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles. The television segment profiled 17 year-old Kimberly Espinosa, a 2020 Warren Christopher Scholar whose father died after battling COVID-19.

“My dad was the only financial provider for our family, and he was sometimes working two jobs,” Kimberly told ABC7. She said that when her grieving family received an eviction notice, O’Melveny and the Scholarship Program provided financial assistance to help them stay in their home.

O’Melveny partner Matt Kline, chair of the Warren Christopher Scholarship Committee, told ABC 7 that, in response to hardships triggered by the pandemic, the firm and other donors “set up a special emergency fund to address some of the really significant challenges that our Scholars face.”

Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, O’Melveny’s Warren Christopher Scholarship Program has awarded upwards of $7 million in college scholarships to more than 250 Los Angeles public high school students.
