O’Melveny & Myers LLP announced that trial lawyer Robert F. Shaffer has joined the firm as a partner in Washington, DC in its IP and technology practice group. “His skills and experience in handling complex life sciences patent litigation make him an ideal addition to our award-winning intellectual property and technology team,” O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin said. Shaffer, who has a master’s degree in physiology and biophysics, has handled Hatch-Waxman disputes, International Trade Commission actions, complex arbitration cases, and represented clients before the US Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board. “I’m thrilled to join the firm’s acclaimed roster of patent litigators,” said Shaffer, who also noted he was drawn to the firm’s “widely recognized distinctive, inclusive culture.”
