Law360: O’Melveny Nabs Former DOJ Public Corruption Prosecutor

Former senior U.S. Department of Justice prosecutor David V. Harbach II is joining O’Melveny’s white collar defense and corporate investigations group. “I was blessed to have worked on a pretty good run of cases during my time as a prosecutor, and I was ready for the next generation to have their shot,” Harbach said. The trial lawyer has tried more than 35 cases to verdict and was looking for a firm that excelled in litigation, valued public service and had a healthy culture. He said that O’Melveny, “hit it out of the park on all three of those metrics.” The former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and special counsel to FBI director James Comey noted that he felt a genuine connection during the interview process and that he felt like he had been there from the beginning. “The exposure that I had to that range of forums and types of cases, I think, will suit me well to transition to yet another arena in private practice,” Harbach said. “My time in The Hague was particularly valuable in terms of opening my eyes to the need to be creative, precisely because many of the tools that I grew accustomed to having as a domestic prosecutor were not available to me in the international arena.”
