Law360: Opioid Makers Cement Calif. Win As Judge Spurns Objections

Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter J. Wilson finalized his decision clearing major drugmakers accused of causing an opioid epidemic in California. Judge Wilson, whose decision rejected 50 objections filed by the city of Oakland, and the counties of Orange, Los Angeles, and Santa Clara, said that, “there is simply no evidence to show that the rise in prescriptions was not the result of the medically appropriate provision of pain medications to patients in need.” The drugmakers, which include Johnson & Johnson, Endo Pharmaceuticals, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Allergan PLC, were facing a threat of US$50 billion in damages.
