Law360: Walter Dellinger, Acting SG Under Clinton, Dies

Prominent O’Melveny appellate lawyer and former US Solicitor General under the Clinton administration Walter Dellinger has died at the age of 80. Dellinger headed the Office of Legal Counsel before serving as Solicitor General and then led O’Melveny’s appellate practice after his tenure in the government. “The world is a better place for having had Walter Dellinger in it, and we are heartbroken at his passing,” O’Melveny chair Brad Butwin said. Butwin added that Dellinger was a “giant in the law” whose “legal accomplishments will endure for generations.” Dellinger was one of the most influential lawyers in Washington, DC, having recently served on President Joe Biden’s US Supreme Court commission and on his 2020 election campaign’s national litigation team.
