February 16, 2022

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes payed tribute to the life of former acting US Solicitor General and constitutional scholar Walter Dellinger, who passed away on February 16, 2022 at the age of 80. A regular guest of Hayes’ show, “All In with Chris Hayes,” Dellinger was frequently turned to for his legal expertise and analysis of ongoing political issues. “There are a lot of brilliant and talented people in this world that come from all walks of life and all stations,” Hayes said. “But it’s a special joy, a rare treat, to find someone who is also decent and righteous and good. Walter Dellinger was that incredible combination.” The program also highlighted remarks made by then Senate Judiciary Committee Chair and current President of the United States Joe Biden at Dellinger's confirmation hearing. “We will begin with Professor Dellinger. A man who has devoted his professional career to thinking, writing, and teaching about our constitution,” President Biden said. “And I might add I think is probably one of the best teachers in the country and clearly one of the nation's leading constitutional scholars because if he can teach me to understand some very complicated issues, I'm confident his students have benefitted over the years immeasurably.”
