Pennsylvania Capital-Star: Pa. School Funding Trial Resumes in Commonwealth Court. Here’s What to Know

A trial involving the state of Pennsylvania and a number of school districts and parents over the state’s public school funding system is resuming after a two-week hiatus. Witnesses from the William Penn School District in Delaware County are expected to testify this week. The petitioners claim that Pennsylvania’s school funding system discriminates against students in low-income districts and that a US$4.6 billion gap exists between what the low-income districts have and what they need. “This case isn’t just about numbers. It’s a case about people,” O’Melveny’s Katrina Robson said, who represents he plaintiffs. “It’s about children struggling to overcome circumstances that they can’t control.”
