Reuters: As M&A Deals Wane, Law Firms Compete for Shares of Shrinking Pie

The global mergers and acquisitions market continued to cool through the third quarter of 2022. According to Refinitiv, the US$2.81 trillion combined value of announced M&A deals in the first nine months of 2022 is down from more than US$4.2 trillion for the same period last year. Some law firms, however, including O’Melveny & Myers LLP, have experienced a year-over-year increase in advised deal value. O’Melveny ranked in the top 25 this year with US$90.8 billion in advised deals through the third quarter, compared to US$50 billion in 2021.
