Reuters: Oklahoma Court Overturns $465 Million Opioid Award Against Johnson & Johnson

The Oklahoma Supreme Court overturned a US$465 million judgement against Johnson & Johnson in a lawsuit filed by the state alleging that the drug maker “fueled the opioid epidemic through the deceptive marketing of painkillers.” The 5-1 decision found that the state’s public nuisance law does not pertain to manufacturing, marketing, and sales of prescription opioids and that the original ruling was wrong it holding J&J liable. The suit was the first in over 3,000 cases brought against drug manufacturers to go to trial.
