O’Melveny & Myers LLP advised UCLA and USC on their recent conference move from the Pac 12 to the Big Ten. Partner Steve Olson said that the firm’s job facilitating the move could be described as “issue spotting,” adding that, “It’s mostly thinking about all of the stakeholders who would be affected by a move like this, think about how they might react and be prepared to address those things.” Although details of the process are confidential, Olson noted that USC and UCLA will enter the Big Ten in 2025, receiving a full share of the conference’s revenue distribution, and that the Big Ten was the only conference that the schools contacted regarding membership.
