Trial between the state of Pennsylvania and a group of petitioners including six school districts, two statewide associations and several parents began on November 12 and will determine whether or not the state’s school funding system meets constitutional standards. “For decades, Pennsylvania lawmakers have shunned their responsibilities when it comes to school funding, severely shortchanging many school districts,” wrote Deborah Gordon Klehr, executive director of the Education Law Center (ELC), in this contributed opinion article. O’Melveny, along with the ELC and the Public Interest Law Center, represent the petitioners.
