The Washington Post: Boy Scouts Releases Sex-abuse Bankruptcy Plan, with US$300 Million Coming from Local Councils

After a year of preparation, The Boy Scouts of America published its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan, which includes its first settlement offer to 85,000 alleged sexual abuse victims and showcased the organization’s intention to include its local councils in the proceedings, reported The Washington Post.
O’Melveny partner Tancred Schiavoni represents Century Indemnity Company, which has joined other insurance providers in asking the bankruptcy court to examine the claims. “Century supports a fair resolution for survivors of sexual abuse, but this plan doesn’t get us there,” Schiavoni said in a statement. “Allowing invalid and fraudulent claims will hurt valid survivors of sexual abuse by delaying and diluting any compensation they may receive.”
