Times of San Diego: In New Amicus Brief, San Diego Supports ‘Dreamers’ as Appeals Court Mulls DACA

The city and county of Los Angeles led a public coalition in an amicus brief calling on the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to overturn a July decision against the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program allows some undocumented US residents to receive protection from deportation if they were brought to the US as children. The brief includes 65 local governments and four advocacy organizations and argues that the US District Court of Appeals for the Southern District of Texas’ ruling of DACA being unlawful threatens “families, neighbors, coworkers, employers and local governments that benefit from the recipients’ contributions to the community.” The brief is co-led by O’Melveny and partner Daniel Suvor said that the firm is, “proud to support … all of the politically, socially, economically, and geographically diverse localities across the country that are united in their unwavering commitment to ensuring that Dreamers can continue to contribute to their communities and achieve their goals.”
