USA Today: Who is Justice Leondra Kruger? For Starters, She’s Argued a Dozen Supreme Court Cases

California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger is among the top candidates President Biden is considering for the nation’s high court. Kruger served in the US Department of Justice during both the Bush and Obama administrations and was recruited by the Biden administration to be solicitor general. One of Krugers more memorable cases was a 2011 US Supreme Court case involving a Michigan teacher who sued her employer under the Americans with Disabilities Act. “She made the best argument for her client – the government agency seeking application of the law,” said Walter Dellinger, a partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP and former Supreme Court lawyer who represented the teacher in the case. Dellinger said he had no idea if Kruger agreed with the administration’s policy after the Court unanimously ruled against the teacher. “That was not her job,” Dellinger added. “The relevant government agencies had a position and she argued it and argued it well.”
