The National Law Journal Names O’Melveny to its 2018 Appellate Hot List

October 29, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC—October 29, 2018—O’Melveny is among 22 law firms named to the National Law Journal’s 2018 Appellate Hot List, which honors firms for their “success before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal appeals courts.”

O’Melveny partner and Appellate Practice chair Jonathan Hacker told the National Law Journal that the firm’s recent US Supreme Court win in China Agritech v. Resh “epitomized our team approach.” The case was a securities-fraud class action that required securities lawyers and Supreme Court specialists to work together closely. “It was never about egos, only winning,” he said.

When asked about the practice advice he’d give to his younger self, Hacker replied that he would, “do it all again: join Sri Srinivasan, Pam Harris, and John Owens in helping the incomparable Walter Dellinger build O’Melveny’s appellate practice.” He continued: “You may or may not become a federal judge—three-in-four chance!—but you’ll be very happy in 20 years.”
