Anna Pletcher and Stephen McIntyre Named to Daily Journal’s 2021 “Top Antitrust Lawyers” List

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES—November 22, 2021—O’Melveny partners Anna Pletcher and Stephen McIntyre have been named among the Daily Journal’s 2021 “Top Antitrust Lawyers.” The list features the publication’s selection of the top 27 antitrust lawyers practicing in California.

The Daily Journal highlighted in its profile of Pletcher that she is currently defending an executive accused of price-fixing broiler chickens sold at grocery stores and restaurants. "It’s unusual for criminal antitrust cases to go to trial," Pletcher said. Formerly a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, Pletcher is appearing at trial as a defense lawyer for the first time in this high-profile case. She told the publication that a large part of her practice this past year has centered around the Justice Department's increased attention to price-fixing, wage-fixing, and no-poach cases. "I have clients who are very concerned about litigating their risk in that area," she said in describing no-poach agreements.

Pletcher is also representing a music performing rights organization, Global Music Rights, in a price-fixing case against a consortium of 10,000 radio stations. In addition, she represents one of the largest multinational consumer electronics and software companies in litigation discovery and she is advising an esports client in a DOJ investigation.

The Daily Journal highlighted McIntyre's "knockout blows" he delivered in Jones v. Micron Technology Inc., where Samsung was accused of colluding in the Dynamic Random Access Memory industry. The district court granted four defense motions to dismiss in a series of orders from 2019 to 2020 despite supplemental allegations of wrongdoing made by the plaintiffs against former Samsung employees. The Daily Journal also recognized McIntyre’s key role on the O'Melveny team that successfully defended Samsung Bioepis Co., Ltd in the first reverse-payment antitrust battle involving biosimilars over the drug Humira, that produces almost US$50 billion a year in sales for its manufacturer AbbVie Inc.

The publication lauded McIntyre's wealth of knowledge in antitrust doctrine, saying it is that of a "technical expert," and noted his incoming position as an editor of the California Lawyers Association's antitrust journal, Competition.
