Butwin Receives Fordham Law’s Medal of Achievement

March 9, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York—March 9, 2018—O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin has been awarded Fordham University School of Law’s Medal of Achievement, the highest honor bestowed by the Fordham Law Alumni Association (FLAA), in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the law.

“At his core, Brad believes in the power of human relationships,” said FLAA President Sharon McCarthy. “He believes in friendships. He believes in family. He believes in the dignity of every person.”

Butwin, class of 1985, was presented with the award at the FLAA’s 69th Annual Luncheon, held March 2, 2018, at Cipriani 42nd Street. More than 740 alumni, colleagues, friends, and family attended the event.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by our unmatched alumni association and even more humbled when I look at the distinguished roster of Medal recipients over the past 66 years,” Butwin said in his acceptance remarks, giving special acknowledgment to past recipient US District Judge David N. Edelstein, for whom he clerked. “No alumni group has deeper loyalty to one another and to their school than ours—none.”

Butwin added that he was grateful for his experience at Fordham Law, saying: “Not only did we all receive a first-rate education, but we also built enduring relationships, joined a powerful alumni network, and learned about the importance of giving back to our communities.”

Fordham Law Dean Matthew Diller thanked Butwin, who serves as chair of the school’s financial aid campaign and as a member of the Dean’s Planning Council, for his many contributions to the school. “His support of Fordham Law is unceasing, his leadership of our financial aid campaign has been transformative, and his guidance to me personally has been enormously helpful,” Diller said.

During Butwin’s tenure as chair of O’Melveny, the firm has consistently ranked in the top tier of The American Lawyer’s “A-List,” which recognizes the nation’s most “well-rounded” firms in the areas of revenue per lawyer, pro bono commitment, diversity representation, and associate satisfaction. O’Melveny has also been a perennial honoree in The American Lawyer’s “Litigation Department of the Year” competition, and in Vault’s 2018 Law Firm Rankings, the firm ranked #1 for “Firm Culture.”
