FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SILICON VALLEY—December 22, 2020—O’Melveny’s Fintech practice has been ranked by Chambers as one of the nation’s industry leaders. The firm has been recognized in both the FinTech Legal and Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies categories.

The Chambers “FinTech 2021” guide cites O’Melveny’s “high-quality FinTech practice,” which advises companies ranging from innovative early-stage companies to larger, established financial institutions. Chambers noted that the practice is “particularly praised” for its “expertise in advising on venture financing, representing both investee companies and investment funds,” as well as for its blockchain and cryptocurrency work.

The guide singled out O’Melveny for advising the Crypto Rating Council, an association of leading crypto companies, on the development of a pioneering evaluation and rating system for cryptocurrencies.

Chambers also recognized Eric Sibbitt, chair of the firm’s Financial Technology practice, as a “notable practitioner.”

O’Melveny advises early-stage and established fintech companies, their investors, and other stakeholders on corporate and regulatory matters, capital markets and financing transactions including private equity and venture capital financing and digital asset offerings; mergers and acquisition and strategic transactions; antitrust, securities, general commercial litigation, counseling and enforcement matters; data security and privacy; anti-money laundering, KYC, and Bank Secrecy Act Regulations; and intellectual property and technology transactions.

The firm’s fintech team—comprised of dealmakers, former policymakers, and state and federal prosecutors—brings an in-depth understanding of the issues affecting various industry segments, including digital assets and exchanges; blockchain; payments; marketplace lending; and robo-advising.

Chambers bases its rankings on in-depth interviews with clients in order to assess the reputations and expertise of business lawyers worldwide. The guide considers qualities including technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness/astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client.
