FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES—May 4, 2018—The Daily Journal named O’Melveny partners Apalla Chopra and Silvia Vannini to its list of the “Top Women Lawyers 2018,” an annual special report featuring the leading female lawyers in California.

In an interview with the Daily Journal, Chopra discussed her work with universities on Title IX issues in light of the #MeToo movement. As the article noted, Chopra represents prominent colleges and universities in lawsuits relating to the institutions’ handling of sexual assault and misconduct allegations. “In the same way as Title IX became a focus of colleges at the very top of the pyramid, and as a result better responses were put into place, I think you’re seeing something similar with the #MeToo movement and companies. Boards are getting involved,” she told the publication. “What I think is very important is for employers to have policies and processes in place which will ensure a workplace culture in which employees feel safe in raising concerns and understand that the employer wants to hear their concerns.”

Vannini discussed her recent international work with the Daily Journal, which observed that Vannini “remains a go-to lawyer for O’Melveny’s clients like Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.” The publication pointed to her work leading the O’Melveny team that represented Starz Play in establishing a strategic alliance with E-Vision, a wholly owned subsidiary of United Arab Emirates-based multinational telecommunications company Etisalat. She also represented Imagine Entertainment, the film and television company founded in 1986 by director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer, in the formation of a TV co-financing venture with TVB Venture Investment LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Television Broadcast Limited. Vannini told the Daily Journal that she enjoys handling such alliances. “It is particularly rewarding as you get to grow with your client,” she said.

Based in Century City, Vannini advises public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, securities, and general corporate matters, including corporate governance, both in and out of the entertainment industry. Chopra is chair of O’Melveny’s Labor and Employment Practice and is based in Los Angeles. She is a member of the Firm’s Policy Committee, and specializes in litigating complex multi-plaintiff and class action discrimination and wage and hour cases.
