August 1, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Anna Pletcher represents clients on broad range of antitrust matters, white collar and corporate investigations

SAN FRANCISCO—August 1, 2019—O’Melveny announced today that Anna Pletcher, former Assistant Chief of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division in San Francisco, has joined the firm as a partner. Pletcher will advise clients on a broad range of antitrust issues, as well as sensitive white collar and corporate investigations. She will be based in O’Melveny’s San Francisco office.

Before joining O’Melveny, Pletcher served for more than a decade as a trial attorney in the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, where she tried significant cases and led important investigations into price fixing, bid rigging, market manipulation, fraud, and money laundering. She also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Major Crimes unit in San Francisco. In recognition of her outstanding work as a prosecutor, Pletcher received the Assistant Attorney General’s award for excellence three times (2014, 2011, and 2007).

During her DOJ career, Pletcher oversaw and participated directly in significant cases involving LCD and cathode ray tubes, real estate foreclosure, auto parts, and financial instruments. On the civil side, her experience includes evaluating Hart-Scott-Rodino filings, investigating mergers, and prosecuting anticompetitive conduct, including prosecuting an e-commerce company for agreeing not to poach employees from competitors.

“It is our great pleasure to welcome Anna to the firm,” said O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Over the course of her outstanding career in public service, Anna has helped lead some of the most complex and consequential antitrust prosecutions in recent memory. Her impressive government background will provide our clients with invaluable insight and counsel. O’Melveny has a long tradition of hiring top-notch lawyers with backgrounds in public service, and we’re delighted to continue doing so with Anna.”

The co-chairs of O’Melveny’s Antitrust Practice, Ian Simmons and Ben Bradshaw, also welcomed Pletcher’s contributions.

“Anna brings a track record of excellence in areas aligned with our strategic plan, including criminal and civil capabilities in a key antitrust market—the Bay Area,” said Simmons. “Her deep and diverse background will provide a boost to our antitrust and white collar investigation practices.”

“As O’Melveny continues to expand our global antitrust practice, we’re excited to welcome Anna to the team,” added Bradshaw. “Her extensive U.S. government experience and international perspective will enable Anna to provide sophisticated, practical antitrust strategy that our clients can rely on to guide their businesses.”

Pletcher has worked closely with foreign competition authorities, including the European Union, Canada, Japan, Korea, and Brazil. She represented the United States in a working group of Latin American enforcement agencies and worked specifically with Mexico and Chile to assist in the development of their antitrust laws.

Between 2014 and 2016, she served as an adjunct professor at her alma mater, Berkeley Law, developing and teaching an advanced seminar for students interested in white collar criminal law.

Pletcher received her B.A. from Yale in 1996. For the next three years, she worked as an investment and M&A analyst for JPMorgan Chase. She graduated Order of the Coif from Berkeley Law in 2005. She then clerked for Judge Woodlock of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
