Jared Bartie and Leah Godesky Named 2021 Sports, Gaming & Entertainment Trailblazers by The National Law Journal

NEW YORK—November 2, 2021—The National Law Journal has named O’Melveny partners Jared Bartie and Leah Godesky to its list of 2021 Sports, Gaming, & Entertainment Trailblazers, which honors “agents of change” who “cover everything from counseling A-list celebrities to sports betting legislation.”
Bartie, co-chair of O’Melveny’s Sports Industry Group, was recognized for his esports work. His deals have involved navigating entry into the top esports leagues, including Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League and Riot’s North America League of Legends Championship Series. His esports clients have included Envy Gaming, Gen. G (previously KSV esports International), FlyQuest, Washington Convention and Sports Authority, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
In his award profile, Bartie told The National Law Journal, “While gaming and esports are currently considered ‘burgeoning’ industries, that designation will be short lived as the sector is poised for continued growth and will soon be considered a mainstay of the sports/media/entertainment landscape.”
Godesky is one of the nation’s premiere trial lawyers representing clients across an array of industries—including media and entertainment. She was recognized for her work in one of the world’s most high-profile #MeToo cases, representing Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Kesha in Kesha’s fight against a lawsuit brought by the producer she has accused of sexual misconduct.
In her award profile, Godesky told The National Law Journal, “Gender equality and ensuring parity for women in their personal and professional lives is deeply important to me, and defending Kesha in the defamation case filed by Dr. Luke is an obvious extension of that.” She added, “The legal system should never be available as a tool for abusers to silence their victims without repercussion.”
