Law360 Names O’Melveny One of 2021’s Project Finance Groups of the Year

NEW YORK—February 22, 2022—Law360 has named O’Melveny’s Project Finance practice a 2021 “Practice Group of the Year” in the publication’s annual awards competition
The winning practice groups were selected from nearly 900 submissions by law firms across the country. The special report honors “the attorney teams behind litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry this past year.”
Law360 highlighted O'Melveny’s representation of a consortium including Vantage Airport Group, RXR, American Triple I Partners, and JetBlue Airways in their US$3.9 billion project to build a new Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). "The airport sector has historically been one of our sectors that we've been very prominent in representing developers, airlines and other project parties in project finance transactions," Co-Chair of O'Melveny's corporate department Eric Richards said.
In September 2020, O’Melveny counseled Delta Air Lines in the issuance of US$1.5 billion in specialty bonds for an ongoing redevelopment project at LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and is currently serving as lead counsel to LaGuardia Gateway Partners on its more than US$4 billion redevelopment of the central terminal at LGA.
O'Melveny partner Elizabeth Dubeck said that COVID-19 presented a challenge for airport projects that "allowed us to really draw on all the expertise from the broad groups of people we have because we suddenly had to advise clients on whole new areas that nobody has worked on before."
Last year, O'Melveny also represented the underwriters in multiple higher education transactions, including new student housing projects for both the Davis and Irvine campuses of the University of California. “They were thinking about the future and the need to develop projects they believed met the future needs of their students despite COVID,” O'Melveny partner Denise Raytis said.
Law360 also highlighted O’Melveny’s recent expansion into Texas in 2021, where the firm opened offices in both Austin and Dallas. "We're seeing tremendous growth in all parts of our business," Richards said. O’Melveny added three partners to its project finance group in the Lone Star State, which increased the practice’s partner count to 15. Richards added that there is “more to come.”
