O’Melveny Advises Angel City Football Club in DoorDash Sponsorship

February 18, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES—February 18, 2021—O’Melveny advised Angel City Football Club, the professional National Women’s Soccer League team in Los Angeles, in a sponsorship agreement with DoorDash, the global on-demand delivery technology company.

The agreement was announced on February 18.

DoorDash is now Angel City’s founding front-of-kit sponsor. The team’s kits—along with team colors, crest, and logoed-merchandise—will be revealed in Summer 2021.

In addition to the sponsorship agreement, Angel City and DoorDash announced a joint initiative during their first year to address food insecurity in Los Angeles by committing to bring an estimated 250,000 meals to those in need.

“We’re delighted to be working with Angel City on these socially impactful commercial matters,” said O’Melveny partner and Sports Industry Group co-chair Charles (Chuck) Baker, who is leading the firm’s work for the team, along with O’Melveny counsel Eric Geffner.

“It continues to be a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of Angel City’s mission and success. The ‘front-of-kit’ sponsorship deal with DoorDash is a yet another groundbreaking move for the team,” added Geffner.

O’Melveny has represented Angel City since its inception in 2020, advising the team’s initial group of founders—including Academy Award-winning actress and activist Natalie Portman, technology venture capitalist Kara Nortman, media and gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman, and venture capitalist, 776 founder & Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. O’Melveny helped the founders bring Angel City into the National Women’s Soccer League and has also advised in equity financing, intellectual property, and commercial matters.

Along with Baker and Geffner, the O’Melveny team representing Angel City in the DoorDash sponsorship included associates Alexandra Piarino and Luisa Lizoain.

O’Melveny’s Sports Industry Group handles many of the legal matters that draw coverage in sports pages everywhere—billion-dollar acquisitions and dispositions of professional sports teams; cutting-edge media and licensing arrangements; stadium development, financings and naming rights; sponsorships and endorsements; strategic joint ventures; and high profile litigation and other disputes.

ANGEL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB STRIKES FOUNDING FRONT-OF-KIT SPONSORSHIP WITH DOORASH

DOORDASH DELIVERS WITH ANGEL CITY

Today Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced DoorDash as the team’s founding front-of-kit sponsor, marking their entrance into professional soccer. DoorDash’s mid-center position on ACFC kits will be revealed in Summer 2021 along with the team colors, crest, and logoed-merchandise.

“Today marks a major milestone in the evolution of Angel City Football Club as we welcome DoorDash as our founding front-of-kit partner,” said Julie Uhrman, Co-Founder and President of Angel City FC.

Through the Angel City Sponsorship Model, DoorDash and ACFC are committed to making an impact off-the-field to address food insecurity in Los Angeles. In fact, in the first year of their multi-year partnership, ACFC and DoorDash are committed to bringing an estimated 250,000 meals to those in need.

ACFC and DoorDash have partnered with CARE in their first year to identify local organizations that serve areas of LA in which the critical need for food outpaces the bandwidth of volunteers. Through the CARE Package Relief program and Project DASH, food will be collected, packaged, and brought directly via DoorDash to people in need.

“I’ve always loved the ability of sports to connect communities and make a positive impact. We are so proud to be the official sponsor of Angel City FC, a team that is working to build something truly powerful for female athletes globally,” Said Tony Xu, DoorDash CEO and Co-founder.

Today, DoorDash also launched its “Be an Angel” initiative, inviting LA customers to join the brand in uplifting their community and channeling their hometown pride. On February 18, DoorDash will donate $5 per order placed on the DoorDash platform from a list of participating local women-owned and led restaurants. This donation will be reinvested directly into CARE’s program to support Los Angeles food-serving organizations.

“DoorDash aligns with our mission to make a positive impact across Los Angeles and beyond. We are so moved to see them immediately mobilize our partnership by helping get meals to those across Los Angeles who may otherwise go without. This is just the beginning and I look forward to the impact we will make together in the years to come,” said Uhrman.

*Terms and Conditions: For every order placed on February 18, 2021 on the DoorDash platform from participating local woman-owned restaurants, DoorDash will donate $5, up to a maximum of $15,000, to CARE.
