O’Melveny Again Ranks Among Top Firms for Satisfaction in American Lawyer’s Midlevel Associates Survey

August 26, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK—August 26, 2019—O’Melveny ranked fourth out of more than 100 US law firms on The American Lawyer’s annual Midlevel Associates Survey, released today. This marks the fifth straight year that O’Melveny has ranked among the nation’s top four firms, and the seventh straight year it has ranked in the top 10.

“We take pride in our sustained strength in the rankings but even more so in what it reflects: a culture that prizes openness, inclusion, mentoring, collegiality, and altruism—and that, most of all, relishes a challenge in the service of our clients,” said Bradley J. Butwin, chair of O’Melveny.

Every year, AmLaw surveys third-, fourth-, and fifth-year associates on several aspects of job satisfaction, including work opportunities, compensation and benefits, training and guidance, and interaction with partners and other associates.

The firm again received high scores for “quality of work,” an O’Melveny hallmark that contributes to its lawyers’ satisfaction. O’Melveny’s elite roster of work includes headline-making representations. The firm is defending Johnson & Johnson against claims brought by state and local governments across the country over the marketing and distribution of opioid pain medications, and is counseling the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in the largest and most complicated municipal bankruptcy in US history. It also defeated the DOJ Antitrust Division’s attempt to block the US$85.4 billion merger between AT&T and Time Warner, and continues to negotiate industry-defining deals in the tech sector.

The Midlevel Associates Survey results follow other recent recognitions that reflect O’Melveny’s distinct firm culture. Last month, The American Lawyer named O’Melveny to its A-List, one of the legal industry’s most coveted honors. The A-List reflects a holistic assessment of law firm performance that takes into account not only financial performance, but also pro bono commitment, diversity, and associate satisfaction. In June, O’Melveny achieved the Vault “trifecta,” becoming the first and only law firm ranked No. 1 across all three of the annual survey’s “Quality of Life” categories: “Best Law Firm to Work For,” “Best Overall Diversity,” and “Best Summer Associate Program.” And for the seventh consecutive year, Working Mother magazine named O’Melveny one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” because it employs best policies and practices to retain and promote women lawyers.
